Qatar is urging the international community to enhance collaboration in order to accelerate sustainable development and advance the United Nations’ 2030 Agenda. During a high-level meeting on the Global Development Initiative held in New York, Qatar’s Minister of State for International Cooperation, Maryam bint Ali bin Nasser Al Misnad, addressed the significant challenges faced by developing nations. These include financial and debt pressures, food and energy insecurities, climate change, and the digital divide.
Al Misnad emphasized the critical need for sustainable and inclusive development as a foundation for long-term global peace, stability, and prosperity. She called for increased international efforts to bridge the development financing gap and allocate more resources to developing countries, especially those classified as least developed.
The minister also highlighted the importance of stronger commitments to development finance, climate action, and necessary reforms within the international financial system to better support these countries in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). She pointed out that while artificial intelligence and digital technologies hold promise for sustainable development, unequal access to these technologies could exacerbate existing inequalities.
To address these concerns, Qatar is advocating for enhanced cooperation in technology transfer, scientific research, innovation, and the development of digital skills. The nation reaffirmed its dedication to sustainable development through its National Vision 2030 and its partnerships on an international level.
Qatar’s efforts extend to supporting poverty reduction, education, food security, healthcare, and resilience in vulnerable countries. Al Misnad’s remarks underscore Qatar’s commitment to playing a proactive role in fostering international collaboration to meet global development challenges.
