During the 31st Assembly of the International Seabed Authority (ISA) in Kingston, Jamaica, Qatar renewed its backing for both the ISA and the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS). The gathering served as a platform for Qatar to highlight its dedication to managing marine resources responsibly while ensuring the protection of the oceanic environment.
Omar Ali Al Ali, who serves as the Secretary of the Standing Committee of the Convention on the Law of the Sea, represented Qatar at the assembly. He stressed the importance of maintaining a balance between utilizing marine resources and conserving the marine ecosystem. Al Ali advocated for increased dialogue and transparency among member states, as well as emphasizing the role of credible scientific research and comprehensive environmental assessments to inform decisions within the Authority.
