The city of Kyiv was rocked by missile and drone attacks early Sunday, resulting in at least one fatality and injuring 13 others, according to statements from Ukrainian officials. This assault on the Ukrainian capital occurred a day following Ukraine’s own strikes on logistical and warehouse sites within Russian territory.
Residents of Kyiv had been alerted by air-raid sirens warning of potential ballistic missile threats moments before explosions reverberated across the city. The attacks spanned six districts, causing significant damage in various parts. In the Solomianskyi district, an apartment building sustained damage, while the Sviatoshynskyi district saw fires break out at both a supermarket and a residential site. Additional targets included a shopping and entertainment complex in the Dniprovskyi district, another apartment building in Shevchenkivskyi, and a facility that was not residential.
Beyond Kyiv, the violence extended to the central Dnipropetrovsk region, where a separate Russian drone attack claimed another life. Meanwhile, on Russian soil, authorities in the Kursk region reported one death attributed to a Ukrainian strike. This uptick in hostilities aligns with Ukraine’s recent strategy of targeting Russian infrastructure, specifically sites believed to play a role in the production and navigation of drones, particularly in the Moscow and Tambov regions.
In recent months, Ukraine has increased the frequency of its long-range attacks on Russian territory, focusing on infrastructure and energy-related targets in retaliation for continuous Russian assaults since the conflict’s onset in 2022.
